Serving Fellow Missionaries
By on April 10, 2008

Botswana was a once in a lifetime experience. I know that’s such a trivialized statement, but honestly, there’s no better way to put it. The sum of all of the experiences is so much greater than the whole. Though it’s a beautiful country in and of itself, the things we did will always speak louder than our physical presence within it.
We interns had a terrific opportunity these past two weeks to help out a ministry called Love Bostwana Outreach Mission. We traveled 24 hours up to Maun, Botswana to restore a house on their base and to do anything else that they needed from us. While we went with intentions of blessing, our selfless work bore just as much fruit in our own lives as it did in the lives of the missionaries we were helping.
Though we had a grueling 16-hour work day (though followed soon-after by an ice cream outing) and several more 12-hour days, what we accomplished in the house was nothing short of miraculous. Each morning we were given food for thought to chew on during our work day, and at night while we scarfed down our dinner we were able to relax in comfortable banter with one another and ended up going to bed ridiculously early. All in all, the trip was the quintessential demonstration of unity. No one quarreled, no one lost their temper and most importantly, we all constantly attacked things with a servant’s heart and positive attitude.
Even though we’ve done a great service for the Love Bostwana staff, we’ve been treated to an equally rewarding experience.
