Soccer Night
The interns are split into two teams of five, and each week we try to set aside at least one night to spend with each other as a team. This past week we were intending to get together on a Wednesday night, but when we told the rest of our group, one intern proclaimed loudly against it. Matt P. was incredibly distraught because the UEFA soccer final was playing live that night. As he explained it, it was possibly the most important game of the year, and he absolutely couldn’t miss it. But hey, I don’t blame him for wanting to watch it at all.

So we decided to make the game our team time. We picked opposing teams (Manchester United vs. Chelsea), and started the rivalry. When Wednesday rolled around, we’d hoarded as much clothing and accessories in our respective colors as possible and began donning our spirit. By game time, the five of us were a blur of Manchester United red and Chelsea blue.

During the game we took a crazy amount of pictures, and had an amazing time cheering and booing for teams we hadn’t cared about 3 days ago. The game itself was extremely exciting, a terrific show of soccer, and ended after a tense overtime and an even more nerve-wracking seven penalty kicks. Manchester won unfortunately (I was rooting for Chelsea), but after it all, I gained some admirable respect for soccer and had an absolutely terrific night.

It’s refreshing to go completely crazy over sports sometimes; it reminds me of home.
